Olmsted Scholarships

ANNOUNCING THE OLMSTED SCHOLARSHIPS: FUNDING SHORT-TERM STUDY ABROAD FOR CONTRACTED ACTIVE-DUTY CADETS

Cadets and midshipmen who are contracted to serve as active-duty line officers are eligible to apply for Olmsted Scholarships to fund short-term travel in non-English-speaking countries. These scholarships are awarded on the basis of merit, with emphasis on demonstrated excellence in academic, physical and leadership programs.

Proposed programs shoud be 1-3 weeks in length, and must include study and reflection on the role of U.S. foreign policy in the destination country or countries.

Participation in the program should be considered a broadening and leader development opportunity, not simply an academic or scholastic opportunity.

As part of their travel, participants must study and reflect on the role of US foreign policy in the overseas location and region visited. Each participating cadet or midshipman will provide the Olmsted Foundation one page of written feedback on their experience, lessons learned, and any recommendations for the program.

The Foundation will follow-up with participating cadets and midshipmen and inform them of the future opportunity to become Olmsted Scholars after they receive their commissions and are on active duty.

For further information on the scholarship application process, please contact Noah Koubenec at koubenecn1@citadel.edu.
