Your Human Affairs Teams exist to help you adjust and succeed as a cadet at The Citadel. Since they are cadets also, they will certainly understand certain aspects of things that may be giving you problems. All members of the Human Affairs Teams have received special classes to enable them to help you or to know who to refer you to for help.
Sexual Assault and Response Coordinator (SARC) & Assistants (ASARC)
Janet Shealy, 953-7277, Thompson Hall, 105. The Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARC) for The Citadel is Janet Shealy. Ms Shealy is assisted in her responsibilities by Assistant Sexual Response Coordinators (ASARC): Col Kevin Dopf, Assistant Commandant of Cadets for Administration, 953-6707. LTC Robert Pickering, Director of Multi Cultural Student Services, 953-5096. Ms. Mary Ellen Huddleston, Director of Intramural Programs, 953-7955. Ms Kelly Simpson, Asst. Athletic Director/Senior Women's Administrator, 953-6604. The SARC and ASARCs act as confidential liaisons for The Citadel Sexual Assault Crisis Intervention Policy. They are able to provide guidance and support to students, faculty and staff concerning the protocol for sexual assault complaints.
The OmbudspersonThe Ombudspersons: (provide due diligence in problem resolution)
- Confidential – Safe resource for cadets, parents, faculty & staff.
- Neutral – Ombudspersons do not advocate for visitors, nor The Citadel.
- Independent – Ombudspersons report directly to the President’s Office, providing general trend information.
- Informal – Ombudspersons have the expressed purpose of helping visitors educate themselves on the many avenues of resolution available to them, from informal to formal.

The Chaplain to The Corps

The Chaplain to the Corps of Cadets insures that the college provides all cadets with their right for freedom of worship, helps the college develop an environment of mutual respect for all religious beliefs, and provides counseling for any cadet wishing to talk about personal or spiritual concerns. The chaplain also coordinates a broad spectrum of religious activities that provide cadets with the opportunity to develop a dynamic, God-centered, spiritual life.

The Counseling Center staff offers confidential individual counseling to students experiencing personal difficulties. These difficulties often include issues such as stress/anxiety, sadness/depression, frustration/anger, relationship/family concerns, alcohol-related problems, difficulties coping in a military environment, and many other personal difficulties.

The Office of Multicultural Student Services promotes an appreciation for diversity among students, faculty, and staff. Students in need of academic assistance, students experiencing difficulties with the fourth-class system, or students dealing with racial, ethnic, religious, or gender-related issues should contact Captain Pickering.
